Loser

Dear Past Self,

Your expectations of me are too high. Especially when it comes to remembering where very important things were packed. You think you can just put something away and that I'll just know where it is when I need it. I'm really sick of this.

You are a loser. And therefore, I have to be a finder. You lose things, I find them. But only after a ton of frustration, and much weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth. And maybe a little under-the-breath cussing.

Now if you can please just tell me where those things are. Or at least next time, write me a note, leaving a very detailed description of where they are.

Thanks.

I've Been Hit By a Mac Truck

It's true. In a Geo Metro. But that's a story for another day...

Today, I'm talking about a large amount of tiredness. I think the equation should go like this, assuming that a good night's sleep consists of 5 to 6 (1.5-hour) uninterrupted cycles of sleep:

Total time (TT): amount of time from start to finish
Time awake (TA): time within TT when not asleep
Amount of time spent in uninterrupted cycles (UC)
Amount of time spent in interrupted cycles (IC)

TT - TA - .25(UC) - .5(IC) = how many hours it felt like.
8.5 - 1 - .25(3) - .5(4.5) =

By these calculations, my total for last night was approximately 4.5. And that's how I feel.

How much sleep did you get last night?

Hot Fudge Sundae Cake

I promise, you need this:

1 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons baking cocoa
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup chopped nuts, if desired
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup baking cocoa
1 3/4 cups very hot water
Ice cream, if desired

Heat oven to 350ºF. Mix flour, granulated sugar, 2 tablespoons cocoa, the baking powder and salt in ungreased square pan, 9x9x2 inches. Mix in milk, oil and vanilla with fork until smooth. Stir in nuts. Spread in pan. Sprinkle brown sugar and 1/4 cup cocoa over batter. Pour water over batter. Bake about 40 minutes or until top is dry. Spoon warm cake into dessert dishes. Top with ice cream. Spoon sauce from pan onto each serving.

Help!

After Savanna finished breakfast, she needed assistance getting down from her booster chair. From another room, I heard a little voice say, "Help me! Help me! HELP ME FIND THE WAY!"

Good Mom

Dear Friends,

This morning I took a nap. I let the smallest one sleep with me, and I let the bigger two watch a movie.

This makes me a good mom. Because now my children are still alive.

And I refuse to feel guilty about it.

Love,
Brianne

To Deepen Our Relationship

There is something very personal about me that I think I'm ready to share with you. And you must understand that telling you may make me feel very vulnerable.

I like edges.

Brownies, cornbread, cake, homemade bread, German pancakes. Don't give me the middles. And if you accidentally over-bake cookies, I'll take those too.

And if you are going to serve me any of these, don't defile them by adding ice cream or frosting. Give it to me straight with one of these:

Just thought you might need to know.
